welcome to Finemind
Restoring communities in Uganda through mental health
Finemind provides counseling services and adjacent mental health programs in communities in Uganda that have suffered from societal and intergenerational trauma from civil war, refugee migration, AIDS and poverty.
OUR PURPOSE
To provide systemic, scalable, and comprehensive solutions for global mental health by tapping into the power of community.
OUR MISSION
To lift up communities by providing mental health services that nurture hope and belonging.
OUR VISION
A world where mental health care is a right for all.
Our Why
Access to mental health care is a fundamental human right. It is not luxury, nor is it discretionary – it is vital. If depression is present and not addressed, it affects other necessary life functions. Our impact lies not only when the individual is lifted, but the real transformation happens when the community is lifted, too.
About Us
Our Context
The center of Finemind’s efforts has been the Agago District in Uganda. It is an area that has suffered from years of civil war, genocide, refugee migration, humanitarian crisis and the AIDS epidemic, which has resulted in deep inter-generational trauma. All these circumstances are linked in a vicious cycle with issues of poverty, poor education, inadequate healthcare and broken family structures. The people of Agago are continuing to face difficulties due to insufficient basic services and limited support. Finemind operates from the premise that rebuilding community-wide mental health will lead to greater agency in the community, i.e. stronger, more capable individuals and families and eventually prosperous, thriving communities.
Our Work
Finemind’s work is innovative because it is able to provide widespread mental health services to address a range of societal and intergenerational problems, which directly counteracts the scarcity of psychiatrists and psychologists in Uganda.
